A flirt, a slob or a miser? Here’s a guide on what you can do to tackle these different categories of men...
If you are in the company of a man who appears to be little weird and somehow you are at a loss as to how to get along with him. Here’s a simple guide...
MISERLY
If every time you suggest a holiday, a meal out or a haircut, he sucks in his breath and says, “Well, if you want to throw your money away,” then he’s just plain mean.
If every time you suggest a holiday, a meal out or a haircut, he sucks in his breath and says, “Well, if you want to throw your money away,” then he’s just plain mean.
Fix: Being cautious about money is not the same as a pathological fear of spending it. If he grew up in poverty, or struggled with debt, it may explain his concern. Look at your spending habits too. If you’re particularly credit-happy, he may be just trying control you. But if he refuses to acknowledge that his attitude to cash is an issue, consider counselling.
A SLOB
He may be kind, gorgeous and funny, but if he is not bothered to put dirty cups in the sink or take the trash out, it can strain your relationship.
Fix: Forget those revenge fantasies about going on a strike – it’s unlikely he’d even notice. Instead, you have to make it clear that in a shared home tidying is a joint responsibility. Often, men object to nagging, so make your point coolly.
MAMMA’S BOY
There’s a rival for your affection, and it’s an older woman who will never give him up. What’s more, he adores his mother – and there’s no room for three in their cosy little nest.
Fix: It can be difficult to come between a man and his mother, but you can make him understand that it’s time to grow up. Never set up a competition and say things like, “Fine! Go to your mother and let her look after you!”
